Why is the default setting when you subscribe to a new RSS feed to have the newest items first? Am I wrong to think it makes more sense, when reading a blog that typically organizes things in chronological order to default to oldest items first?

Forgot it was Friday the 13th until Bill Brown dropped the word Triskaidekaphobia on us, which according to Wikipedia is fear of the number 13. Wikipedia also says there is a specialized form of this phobia for Friday the 13th called paraskavedekatriaphobia.
