Crazy Prop Bets

The world of high-stakes poker is surreal in many respects, mostly to people like me in the enormous sums of money that are tossed around on the chance of something happening. One thing that you learn about if you read poker sites or watch any of the TV shows is the enormous amount of side action that goes on between professional poker players who make their living playing cards. It seems to boil down to the fact that a lot of these folks are truly degenerate gamblers, and the action they get on the felt just isn’t enough to satisfy their gambling jones. I read this week about a bet a pro named Erik Lindgren made over golf during the current WSOP. He announced that he could play four rounds of golf at a Vegas course in one day, playing from the professional tees and shoot under 100 in each round. The terms specified that he had to walk the entire course (no car) and carry his own bag. All this took place in the summertime Vegas heat and wind. Once word got out, a few other pros started betting against him and when he started, there was something like $340K riding on the outcome of his day. I can’t post the video clip in this blog, but this link below goes to the video recap.
