More iPhone News

  • Analysts are speculating that Apple sold over 500,000 iPhones this weekend. The 8GB model sold more than the 4GB model.
  • Lack of Bluetooth syncing with Macs seems like a really big missing feature. I can do this with my Nokia.
  • Apple stores seemed to have the bulk of available stock according to online reports. Now that the initial rush has passed, it will be interesting to see if Apple can keep up with volume demands. Reports say that the Apple store online is estimating a delay of 2-4 weeks if your order the iPhone online. I wonder what the supply situation will be like once the Apple stores run out of the first shipments. Apple has a web page where you can check the available stock on a daily basis at your local Apple store. The Austin stores show they are sold out right now, but Houston stores still have some.
  • There are a significant number of people who are having problems activating their iPhones. My guess is that these are largely AT&T problems and that was definitely one of the risks Apple took when it hitched its wagon to AT&T. Hopefully, future versions of iPhone, besides being better and cheaper, won’t be wedded as closely to AT&T. In my case, it probably wouldn’t be a big deal, since I’m already an AT&T customer and many of the people having problems are those who are switching from another service, or have some other quirks with their account that seem to be causing hiccups.
