Troy Patton AAA Debut

I went to the Dell Diamond tonight to watch Troy Patton pitch his first game in AAA. He’s one of the top Astros pitching prospects and was recently promoted from Corpus Christi to Round Rock. He had a pretty nice debut. Here’s his line:

He has a real easy delivery, with little wasted motion, especially from the stretch. Not a very big guy, maybe a little bigger than Roy Oswalt and he’s only 21. He seemed in control the whole night and other than going 3-0 on the first batter before getting him to fly out, he usually worked ahead in the count. His FB looked like it maxed out around 90 or 91 on the gun at the park, but I’m not sure how accurate it is. There were only about 3 balls hit hard off him all night and 2 of those ended up caught. The only run he allowed followed a hit batsmen and a pop-up that fell out of the SS’s glove.

The Express hitters, against their best efforts, eventually staked him to a 3-1 lead when he left and held on for the win. I’ll post some pictures later.

Also, Wandy Rodriguez pitched a CG shutout for the big club tonight. His first in the majors.

The clouds held off, but there was some impressive lightning.
