Roger Clemens Ad for ATT Wireless

I’m not as big a fan of Clemens as I was say at this time last year, but I don’t hate him like a lot of people. Anyway, I just saw a commercial for ATT Wireless that featured him and his wife that cracked me up. It’s similar to the ones where they show two people having a conversation via cell phone and one will ask the other a question. We see the other person replying, but we can’t hear him, because his cell phone reception has dropped and the questioner hears only silence, leaving him to wonder what it signifies.

So the Clemens commercial has him standing on the golf course, calling his wife on the phone (dateline May 7, 2007). He tells her that New York wants him to come back, but all she has to do is say the word “no” and he’ll turn them down. Cut to Debbie and she appears to be animatedly doing so, but he can’t hear her. Finally, he hangs up the phone and turns to his buddies and says something like, “Hey guys I’m back. She was speechless.”

I thought it was a pretty clever send-up of Clemens notoriously long decision-making process about whether or not he is retiring each of the last few years.

I checked on YouTube, but the commercial isn’t there yet, but here’s an old Clemens Sportscenter commercial that’s not too bad.
