The Friendly Confines

Craig Biggio is playing the final series of his career at Wrigley Field in Chicago this weekend. According to Alyson Footer of this won’t be his last trip here.

Sunday will be Biggio’s last game at Wrigley as a player, but he and a few special friends plan to show up someday, as fans in the stands. Biggio, Jeff Bagwell, Casey Candaele and Brad Ausmus are determined to experience what it’s like to be bleacher bums at some point, in the not-so-distant future.

“The bleachers seem to be more fun,” Biggio said. “I think we have connections to get some tickets.”

The Chron has a similar article with an additional quote from Bidge.

“Wrigley’s been one of my favorite parks,” he said. “The fans there, the whole atmosphere, it’s always been No. 1 to me and always will be No. 1. I am looking forward to going and playing a couple of more games. I will definitely miss that place.”

Biggio said he and former teammates Jeff Bagwell and Casey Candaele have plans to return to Wrigley as fans some day and sit in the bleachers. Brad Ausmus might get invited, too.

“I’ll miss that old, big scoreboard in center field that’s telling you everybody has a night game and you’re the only game that’s playing,” Biggio said. “Wrigley is awesome.”

That would be cool to be a bleacher bum some day and find a couple Hall-of-Famers hanging out, drinking beers with you.

I will now jinx the Astros by pointing out they are leading 6-0 in the top of the 7th. I have mixed feelings about this. I want the Astros to win obviously, but don’t want the Cardinals to have any chance of winning the division and they’re only 3 games back of the Cubs right now. I’ll just have to root hard against the Cards tonight.

Update: The Astros overcame my jinx and held on to win 6-1, powered by Hunter Pence’s 2 HR, 5 RBI day and goofy post-game interview. You gotta love him. Unquestionably the best thing to come out of this moribund season.

  1. I believe everything said was very logical. But, what
about this? suppose you were to create a awesome headline?
I am not saying your content isn’t solid., but what if you added a post title that grabbed folk’s attention?
I mean The Friendly Confines | Sit, Ubu, Sit! Good
dog! is kinda vanilla. You ought to peek at Yahoo’s home page and see how they write article titles to get people to click. You might add a related video or a related pic or two to get readers interested about everything’ve written.
In my opinion, it could bring your posts a little bit more interesting.

  2. No matter if some one searches for his vital thing, thus he/she wants to
be available that in detail, thus that thing is maintained over here.
