Wrestling in the Pigpen

One of the least-respected institutions in America today takes on one of its brethren; and lawyers are only tangentially involved. A U.S. Senate committee will investigate top televangelists to see if they are misappropriating funds entrusted to their use. If that’s not the pot calling the kettle black, I don’t know what is. Still, it couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch of people

According to Grassley’s office, the Iowa Republican is trying to determine whether or not these ministries are improperly using their tax-exempt status as churches to shield lavish lifestyles.

The six ministries identified as being under investigation by the committee are led by: Paula White, Joyce Meyer, Creflo Dollar, Eddie Long, Kenneth Copeland and Benny Hinn. Three of the six – Benny Hinn, Kenneth Copeland and Creflo Dollar – also sit on the Board of Regents for the Oral Roberts University.

Its sad that these two groups of public figures, one supposed to be the senior house of our legislature, and the other the public face of religion, are both so reviled, mostly because of the behavior of their members.
